Things to Do in the Catskills - Check out the Local Art Scene

The arts scene in the Catskills is thriving both with talented creators native to the region and those who left NYC to enjoy the endless inspiration our region provides.

If you’ve already checked out the popular Dia:Beacon and Storm King Art Center further east and are ready to dive into the Catskills scene, here are favorite cool, interesting places to find great art.

Start Local at the Catskill Art Society

As you stroll down Main Street in Livingston Manor, the closest town to the Inn, you’ll spot a brick building with big windows - inside you’ll see all sorts of unique contemporary arts. Step inside, say hi to the friendly staff, and check out the latest exhibits the Catskill Art Society has to offer.

This local treasure is a nonprofit organization cultivating public interest, participation, and enjoyment of the arts. Through its multi-arts center, CAS explores contemporary art practices and facilitates creative and professional development for established and emerging artists.

Set in what used to be an old 1920s movie theater, CAS hosts film screenings, art shows, and all sorts of interesting exhibitions throughout the year. They host events and kids programs, too - there’s something for everyone in the family.

If you love CAS and want to support it further, consider donating to support its mission or attending its 2019 fundraising gala at - you guessed it - the Beaverkill Valley Inn.

Check out ArtSpace at Bethel Council of the Arts

Head to ArtSpace in nearby Kauneonga Lake to see work and exhibitions from local artists, craftsmen, and creators. It’s just down the road from the original Woodstock site - the Bethel Woods Woodstock Museum is a must-see, too.

Head into Stray Cat Gallery in Bethel - then grab a drink at Catskill Distilling Company

Located near the Dancing Cat Saloon and Catskill Distilling Company, the Stray Cat Gallery is always filled with cool finds. With art exhibits both inside and out, you’ll be able to check out work from a bevy of talented local artists, sculptors, and photographers.

Take a Drive to the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance

Located in the historic Arlington Hotel, the Arts Center has 2 galleries, a recital hall and gift shop. It is the headquarters for the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the arts council for Sullivan County. With new exhibitions every month, it’s always worth a visit to see what’s new and exciting in the world of Catskills artists.

Our friends at the Sullivan County Visitors Association have a longer list of all the local galleries and event spaces here. Want to head up to the Catskills to check out the art scene? Book your room at the Beaverkill Valley Inn here.
