Five Really Fun Things to Do in the Catskills This February | Updated 2020

The winter is definitely a slower time up here in the Catskills, but there are still so many fun things you can do. From checking out local shops to relaxing by the fire, here are our favorite things coming up this month:

Visit the Beaverkill Valley Inn for a cozy weekend away

We admittedly might be biased here, but the Inn is so special during the winter. Book a stay and enjoy our beautiful Victorian inn covered in snow. We can arrange a fireside dinner for you with specialty cocktails by our bartender Sandy, or you can sit by the windows in the tavern and watch the snow fall. The enormous indoor pool is heated with a glass roof, letting you enjoy the cold weather while staying warm.

Enjoy the President’s Day Holiday (and get some shopping done)

President’s Day weekend is a great time to visit the Catskills - the extra day off means you’ll get more time to explore! Livingston Manor’s Chamber of Commerce is hosting a fun President’s Weekend  event where you can enjoy the latest show at Catskill Arts Society, free wine tastings at Upstream Wine & Sprits, $4 pilsners at Catskill Brewery, and special discounts at local stores Life Repurposed, Willow & Brown, Dear, and Morgan Outdoors.

Check out the latest exhibition at Catskill Art Society

CAS’ latest exhibit, Bill Shuck, opens on February 15 and runs through March 14. Make sure to check out the opening artist talk from 3-4 PM at Laundry King on 2/15, and stay for the reception afterwards!

Learn about fly tying at FlyFest

If you’re itching to get back on the river and can barely wait till the fly fishing season starts, check out FlyFest at the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum on February 29. Fly Fest is an annual escape from the doldrums of winter where anglers gather to tie flies and connect during the off season.  The Catskill Fly Tyers Guild sponsor this event, which is free and open tp all anglers.

Get outside and play at SnO&Wshoe Fun Run/Walk

Who said you can’t do a fun run if it’s the winter? Join the 1st Annual SnO&W Snowshoe Fun Run/Walk on the O&W Rail Trail from Mountaindale to Woodridge.  If there’s enough snow, snowshoes are encouraged! They’ll offer a big discount on snowshoe rentals to SnO&W participants.

Participants can choose to Walk or Run approx. 2 miles along this wonderful section of O&W Rail Trail! Great for history lovers. Bring the whole family. Parking & restrooms at the Mountaindale Visitor’s Center before the race. Hot cocoa and coffee afterwards at Woodridge Town Hall. Shuttle bus available to bring you back to Mountaindale.
