Five Really Fun Things to Do in the Catskills This September

There’s always something going on up here north of NYC, especially in the crisp fall season. The heat of summer has worn off, but it’s still warm enough to enjoy the outdoors, and there are tons of fun fall events to experience in the Catskills this September.

Take a Fly Fishing Lesson

The Beaverkill Valley Inn has our fly fishing instructor Nick at the Inn every Saturday throughout the fishing season, which ends October 15. With our mile of private Beaverkill River, complimentary fly fishing gear, and our very own casting pond, you’ll become an amateur angler in no time.  Book your fly fishing lesson when making your reservation here

Visit a local Farmer’s Market

There are Farmer’s Markets a-plenty, and at this time of year they’re filled with tasty baked goods, fresh produce, and all the pumpkins anyone could wish for. The closest one to the Inn is the Roscoe Farmer’s Market, which is open Sundays from 10AM - 2PM.

Enjoy a Fall Harvest Festival

Our friends at Bethel Woods are hosting a Harvest Festival every Sunday throughout the month of September. Enjoy artisans and crafters, fresh food, special events, family activities and creative learning programming, corn and hay mazes, horse and buggy rides, and performances by talented regional musicians on the Festival Stage each week.

If music festivals are more your thing, don’t miss out on the Equinox II Festival at the Arrowhead Horse Rescue and Ranch in Parksville. Friday admission is free, so take a three-day weekend and head upstate!

Sample Local Craft Beers at an Oktoberfest festival

Roscoe Beer Company is hosting their Oktoberfest party on September 28, and they’ll have authentic German food, their own Oktoberfest brew and other tasty beers, plenty of kid-friendly events, a pumpkin carving contest for grownups, live music, local vendors, and a live wood carving show.

Attend the Big Eddy Film Festival

Taking place over the weekend of September 20, the Big Eddy Film Festival is a favorite. Produced by Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the arts council for Sullivan County, the Big Eddy Film Festival aims to advance the traditional art of storytelling by showing the newest and best independent films from around the world and our own backyard.Featuring a lineup of thought-provoking and fully entertaining films, it’s definitely worth a visit.
