Our Guide to a Stress-Free Summer Weekend in the Catskills | What to Do in the Catskills in the Summer

Sometimes, you want your vacation to be full of adventure and seeing all the sights (and we have plenty of recommendations for you there), but other times, you just need a break.

Here’s our guide and itinerary for the perfect stress-free summer weekend in the Catskills, for those weekends when you just need to get away from it all.

Friday - Arrive at the Inn

Take a half day of work on Thursday and head up to the Catskills before rush hour. We’re only 2 hours north of New York City, so if you beat the traffic, you’ll be here before you know it.

4:00 PM: Arrive at the Inn and head up to your room. Take a nap, read a book, crack open the window and enjoy the sound of the river - it’s up to you.

5:30 PM: Head down to the bar and enjoy one of our seasonal cocktails.

6;00 PM: Dinner on the deck overlooking the Inn’s grounds - Chef Tommy has cooked up something incredible for you. Our specials change each week, but you can get an idea of our menu here.

7:00 PM: Sit on the wraparound porch enjoying the sunset. You deserve it.

Saturday

9:00 AM: Sleep in a little, we’ll have breakfast waiting for you. Mary Ellen, our very sweet and lovely breakfast server, has made her famous blueberry pancakes.

10:00 AM: You’ve booked a lesson with our fishing expert, Nick: good choice! Fly fishing is a relaxing, meditative sport that allows you to really immerse yourself in nature. You can borrow waders from the Inn, and we have reels and flies available, too.

2:00 PM: Having worked up an appetite on the river, it’s lunchtime! You go for the Waygu Beef Burger and a beer from the Catskill Brewery, and enjoy it on the deck in the sunshine.

3:00 PM: Time for a hike - the Inn has multiple trails, from a short loop trail around the river, to a longer trail through the forest.

4:00 PM: It’s a good time to take a nap - you’ve done a lot today! Your room is waiting for you - you can even enjoy the bathtub, if you’d like.

6:00 PM: Dinnertime again - this time you enjoy the week’s specials (including the dessert!) on the front porch. There’s never been a prettier way to dine al fresco!

8:00 PM: Once the sun goes down, it’s time for s’mores by the fire - sit back in and Adirondack chair and enjoy the stars!

sunday

9:00 AM: You’re looking well-rested this morning! Take a drive to Livingston Manor for an egg sandwich on a biscuit from The Walk Inn - it’s worth the wait (the line goes fast, we promise).

10:00 AM: Take a stroll around town and enjoy some of our favorite shops, like Nest, Homestedt, Taylor and Ace, Life Repurposed, and more.

11:00 AM: Head back to the Inn and enjoy a swim in the pool and ice cream at our self-serve ice cream parlor before you head out.
