What to Pack for Your Winter Trip to the Catskills
What to Pack for Your Winter Trip to the Catskills
Headed north of NYC for a weekend getaway? Here’s our guide on what to bring on your winter trip to the Catskills.
A lot of warm layers.
We’re only about 2 hours north of NYC, so how much colder can it really be? Well, up here in the mountains, it can actually be a lot colder depending on the altitude and weather. It might be a balmy 50 degrees in Manhattan but snowing in certain parts of the Catskills. Some higher mountain peaks might have snow in spots, where just a few miles down the road there’ll be none. The best way around this is to pack a lot of warm layers - a thermal for lounging at the Inn around the fire, a fleece for a walk to the clubhouse, and a parka for hikes and strolling around town.
More than one pair of shoes.
You might think you’re just coming up for a laid back vacation. Soon enough, the Inn’s grounds, available snowshoes, and miles of hiking trails will start calling and if you only have a cute pair of flats, you’ll miss out. Bring winter or hiking boots for outdoor activities - you don’t need to buy anything new, your regular winter Sorel or LL Bean duck boots should be fine. Feel free to bring those cute flats, too - they’ll be perfect for dinner dates. If you’ll want to use the Inn’s fitness center, don’t forget your gym shoes!
A swimsuit - yes, really.
The Inn has a gorgeous, heated indoor pool under a glass ceiling - it’s magical to enjoy it while snowflakes are falling outside. The clubhouse has plenty of towels in the locker room, so just bring your swimsuit and enjoy a toasty swim even in the coldest weather.
Bath bombs and a sheet mask.
Many of the Inn’s guest rooms have bathtubs, and after a chilly day on the trails, a bath will feel really good. Bring your favorite bubble bath, bath bombs, or sheet mask, and sit back and relax in your cozy bathtub.
A really good book.
The Inn has a small and well-stocked library if you forget yours, but your trip is the perfect opportunity to catch up on all the reading you’ve been meaning to do. Curl up next to one of the two fireplaces with hot cocoa and start working your way through the NY Times bestseller list.
