Best Kid-Friendly Things to Do in the Catskills in the Summer

The Catskills are an ideal spot for a family vacation - with endless nature trails, ponds, lakes, and cool towns dotting the landscape, there’s so much to do for kids of any age.

Here are our favorite kid-friendly activities to do in the Catskills:

Book a trip to the Beaverkill Valley Inn

Our Inn has so many fun activities for kids and parents alike. Our favorites:

  • our huge indoor pool - it’s covered by a beautiful glass ceiling so you can enjoy it in the sun, rain, or even under the stars.

  • our 24/7 self-serve ice cream parlor (*note: this is currently closed due to the coronavirus pandemic)

  • our casting pond - learn how to fly fish with our fishing guide, Nick. When your kids have mastered fly casting, they can head to the Beaverkill River, just steps away from the Inn’s front door. For older kids, you can even plan a full-day fishing lesson with Nick.

  • our hiking trails: The Inn has numerous hiking trails, from a short loop for younger kids to more extensive trails for older kids and teens.

  • our fire pit: perfect for s’mores under the expansive Catskills sky!

You can book your visit to the Inn here.

Visit local museums in the Catskills area

There are a ton of great museums nearby, and many have special kids programs. We love the Catskills Fly Fishing Museum, the Catskills Arts Society, and the Bethel Woods Museum.

The Catskills Fly Fishing Museum offers virtual and interactive events until they can resume their in-person programming.

Catskills Arts Society is offering virtual classes and events for kids.

And the Bethel Woods Museum is always a groovy place to go - it’s the site of the original Woodstock festival!

Get in touch with nature at local farms

You can take the kids to Bridle Hill Farms to see the horses, go on trail rides, and take a riding lesson. For a more exotic experience, Buck Brook Alpacas has over 100 alpacas and angora rabbits, as well as a ton of seasonal events and things to do.
